MA-weekend at Hordaland Art Centre: "Still Life With Oysters"
Lasse Årikstad, MA-student in Fine Art created one single work every day in 2013. The work is displayed at Hordaland Art Center between 14 and 16 March.
Exhibition opening: 14 March, 7 pm
Exhibtion period: 14 to 16 March
Venue: Hordaland kunstsenter, Klosteret 17
From 1 January to 31 December he made 365 collages from found printed materials - posters, magazine clippings, advertising, flyers, newspapers - incorporating drawing and anecdotal, humorous and descriptive texts. The individual pieces that make up the work Still life with oysters etc. are filled with references to the art world, his own and other's works, current events, brands, larger societal discussions and general questions about being in this world. Årikstad's year of 2013 is also a time capsule. Through his consumption of popular culture and life in general he made a zone of ideas and experimentation with an intuitive and no-questions-asked approach that may be challenged by the institutional life of an art student.
Lasse Årikstad (b. 1983) is completing his MA at Bergen Academy of Art and Design spring 2014. He has had solo exhibitions at Galleri Fisk, Bergen (It made sense at the time, 2013) and Galleri Blunk, Trondheim (I hear a new world, 2012), and participated in several group exhibitions such as Sørlandsutstillingen and Trøndelagsutstillingen (both 2010), HATCH, Agder Kunstnersenter, Kristiansand (2012), Vi tager intet ansvar#2, Carlsberg Tårnet, Copenhagen, Denmark (2013), When there is nothing else left to do there is always the brick, rom 8, Bergen and Nrktkklbn vs Høyt Niva, Prøverommet, Knipsu, Bergen (both 2013).
The MA-weekend is collaboration between Hordaland Art Centre and Bergen Academy of Art and Design. Twice a year the MA-students at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design are invited to submit proposals for an exhibition to be realised at Hordaland Art Centre, and a professional jury selects one of the proposals. Jury spring 2014 was Pedro Gómez-Egaña (MA-coordinator, Bergen Academy of Art and Design), Randi Grov Berger (curator, Entree), Anne Szefer Karlsen (director, Hordaland Art Centre).
