KHiB has a new name: Bergen Academy of Art and Design
"The Academy wishes to incorporate the term "design" in the institution's name so that our activity in artistic research and education is better reflected," says Paula Crabtree, Rector at KHiB and Chair of the Board.

Kari Dyrdal shows artistic research at Kunstnerforbundet in Oslo
Professor Kari Dyrdal shows the work "Harnisk og Brett"in the Gallery"Kunstnerforbundet" in Oslo.  The piece is part of a series of 15 works in the series "Jacquard Fortellinger"(transl. "Jacquard Stories"). The works are also documented in her recent publication "mønster arbeider / pattern works 2007 - 2011". The exhibition is on from 8 March to 1 April 2012.

Annette and Caroline Kierulf with artistic research at Bergen Kunsthall as part of the Borealis Festival
Annette and Caroline Kierulf are part of a group exhibition at Bergen Kunsthall from 9 March to 8 April 2012. Woodcut, letterpress and other printing techniques constitute a primary focus in the exhibition. The other artist are Matthew Brannon, Andrea Büttner and Thomas Kilpper. Annette Kierulf is Professor, and Caroline Kierulf is Assistant Professor at KHiB.

Ellen Røed and Christian Blom in Rom8 at Borealis in Bergen
Research fellow Ellen Røed and Christian Blom will stage the exhibition 'On Balancing' at Rom8 from 14 to 17 March 2012. The exhibition reflects on the reference point's role in the production of knowledge and the elaborate choreography that can occur during production of a scientific standard.

Arve Håland shows artistic research in Rom8 in Bergen
"Rust Never Sleeps: Making Paintings with Sulphate Ferrique and Other Unusual Materials" is the title of Associate Professor Arve Håland's artistic research which will be shown in Rom8 in Bergen from 23 to 30 March 2012. Opening 23 March at 6pm.

Open Seminars, Lectures and Conferences

Data is political: a symposium on art, design and information politics.
The event brings together speakers from design, art, theory, and information sciences to discuss such questions as: What are the aesthetic, ethical and spatial dimensions of information and its relation to power, the production of knowledge, and construction of urban spaces? Speakers include Gediminas & Nomeda Urbonas, Daniel van der Velden, Philippe Rekacewicz, and Jessica Rylan with contributions from Michelle Teran, Jill Walker Rettberg among other artists and practitioners from the Bergen community. Opens 15 March 2012 at Bergen Public Library.

Seminar with art collector and writer Garth Clark in Bergen
Garth Clark, renowned gallerist, writer, speaker and art critic, is to hold a one day seminar at KHiB where he gives lectures on Lucio Fontana and on Ai Wei Wei. Assistant Professor Richard Launder chairs the seminar on 26 March 2012.

Call for presentations - Sensuous Knowledge Conference, January 2013
A unique collaboration between Art Museums of Bergen and Bergen Academy of Art and Design forms the new context for the conference: Sensuous Knowledge will take place inside of two exhibitions Material Information curated by José Andrés Gaitán and Real Life Stories, curated byFeng Boyi which includes Ai Wei Wei. The new venues have inspired the titleTa(l)king Place. We invite 30-minute presentations of artistic and/or curatorial, practice-based research projects for the groups.

Designing scenography for Mari Boine and KORK 
Hilde Hauan Johnsen, Professor of Textiles, has been invited to design the scenography for a concert by Mari Boine and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra in Kautokeino on 28 March 2012 together with master's student in art, Kiyoshi Yamamoto Farias, and former art student, Aoi Yoshizawa.

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles organises the MOCA FRESH Auction 2012. A work by Eamon O'Kane, Professor of Visual Art, is being part of the auction auction which takes place on 24 March 2012.

Heidi Nikolaisen shows video and textiles at Knipsu in Bergen
Assistant Professor Heidi Nikolaisen is part of a group exhibition that opens 9 march 2012 at Knipsu, an artist run gallery in Bergen. The exhibition is titled "De Utvalgte" (translates "The Chosen Ones") and also includes works by artists Mona Nordaas and Steingrímur Eyfjord. The exhibition is on until 1 April.

Julie Clifforth to take part in the Spring Exhibition at Charlottenborg in Denmark
A video piece by BA student Julie Clifforth has been selected for participation in the Spring Exhibition at Charlottenborg in Copenhagen. The exhibition will run from 24 February to 6 May 2012.

Five MA students with exhibition at NoPlace in Oslo
Five MA students in Fine Art from KHiB are currently showing an exhibition in Gallery NoPlace in Oslo. The exhibition is titled "Frenzy" and is curated by KHiB alumni Tommy Olsson. The students are Gro Gjengedal Navelsaker, Ingeborg Annie Lindahl, Jane Sverdrupsen, Janna Thöle-Juul and Veronica Rebecca Johanse. The exhibition is open until 11 March 2012.

MA Week-End at Hordaland Art Centre in Bergen
MA Week-End is a collaboration between the Art Centre and KHiB. Twice a year MA students in Fine Art are invited to apply for exhibition space. A professional jury evaluates the applications, and one student gets the opportunity to show her/his work. The next MA Week-End is on 23-25 March.

Galleri Fisk: student-run gallery in Bergen
Galleri Fisk opens new exhibitions every second week. The opening night is every other Friday at 7 pm. Opening hours: kl. 12-4 pm Saturday and Sunday. Address: Kong Oscars gate 46, Bergen.

This is Bergen National Academy of the Arts (KHiB)

Bergen Academy of Art and Design (KHiB) in Norway offers BA and MA study programmes in Fine Art and in Design in addition to further education and life-long learning. KHiB also has research fellows in the Programme in Research Fellowships in the Arts (PhD level). In addition, there is a part-time study programme in Curating and a one-year course in Practical Pedagogical Education. KHiB has 325 students and around 100 staff members.
